Pastor’s Corner
January 1, 2011
Aloha, CCAA Family & Friends
A great year has begun for us if we’ll all simply do what God requires of us: “to fear your God, to walk in all His ways, to love Him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to observe the Lord’s commands and decrees….” (Deuteronomy 10:12-13; also Micah 6:8)
Starting with myself, my New Year’s prayer for all of us is that this will be the year when our hearts are consumed afresh by God with a genuine Holy Spirit revival in our souls. Early indicators will include a personal hunger for God’s Word, a desperation to commune with Him regularly in prayer, and a yearning to want to share Christ with others – both believers and not-yet-believers. May this be the year in which we welcome and experience the regular supernatural favor of God in our personal life, in our family relationships, in our areas of need (finances, health, education, etc.), and in our church ohana. May 2011 be the year in which we trust in the Lord and do good; delight ourselves in the Lord; commit our ways to the Lord; and remain still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him. (Psalm 37:3-7)
Shall we begin? For those intending to take up the challenge to read through the Bible this year, don’t forget that today is Day 1! For everyone, do make it a point to come to church this Sunday with your heart prepared to worship and encounter the living God as we celebrate Christ in our first communion service of the year.
Love you all and thanking God for you….to God alone be the glory!
Pastor Owen
November 2009
Aloha, CCAA Family & Friends,
As pastor, may I share with you one of my deepest desires for our church ohana and for the body of Christ at large? It is that we all experience the liberty and the abundant life Christ promised His true disciples who are faithful to continue growing in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. (John 8:31-32, John 10:10b, 2 Peter 3:18)
Toward that end, periodically during the midweek, I’d like to share with you a writing that’s been a personal blessing to me. My hope is to encourage you outside of our Sunday celebrations to deepen your personal relationship with Christ and to broaden your perspective of what our great God is doing today both locally and globally.
These articles will address a variety of subjects ranging from personal devotionals to relevant issues affecting our ohana’s diverse groups (youth, singles, couples, and families) to the contemporary issues of our culture, society, and world (ethics & apologetics, social issues, outreach opportunities, missions highlights).
Enjoy!
By the way, as one familiar with the problem of dehydration – both physically and spiritually – I’ll be calling these articles “Thirst Quenchers” as a reminder to us all of our need for Living Waters (John 4:13-14, 7:37-39) and of how Christ promised to bless and satisfy those who hunger and thirst for righteousness (Matthew 5:6).
Are you thirsty for God? Get ready to be blessed!
To God alone be all the glory,
Pastor Owen

Most of us are familiar with Romans 8:28: “And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” (NASV)
But do we truly believe this? What about when times are tough…when life is falling apart…when God seems so far away…?
Read the true story of a missionary couple that was published in the January-February 2010 edition of Mission Frontiers. Read and rejoice. Read and weep. Read and be encouraged. Just read and be blessed!

To begin the new year, and in light of our upcoming New Life Group series entitled, “Fireproof Your Marriage,” here’s a repeat of one of our first Thirst Quencher articles which focused on communication in marriage (principles that apply in any meaningful relationship).
As you read through the article to understand how each level of communication is defined, answer these insightful questions and let the Holy Spirit direct your next steps toward improving the quality of your communication with those closest to you.
* On a scale from 1 – 5, how would you rate the level of communication you enjoy with your spouse, or if single, with your closest friends? How would your spouse/friend rate the level of communication you share with each other? Dare to ask?
